Digi Doodle Shop's challenge this week is Distressing ... and it distressed me plenty. I had never tried distressing before and had no idea how to do it. The card was due Tuesday, and it was Monday night, so I was down to the wire, no choice but learn how to do it. I started with a couple of video tutorials. I finally saw one that recommended a foot file, kind of like a small grater. I happened to have one so I figured I'd give it a try. Well, it wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. I still need practice, but I did it! It does look like it's been around a bit.
The image is from Digi Doodle Shop; I really like it. I colored it with Copics and used distressed inks for the aged look. The over sized eyelets are from Stampin' Up. They kind of reminded me of portholes. The paper was a scrap left in my stash.
Copics: BG0000, BG000, BG01, E13, E15, E17, E50, E51, E53M E55, Y26, YR31, 110

Beautiful card. It looks like you've conquered distressing quite nicely!
ReplyDeleteWell done on your first attempt at distressing - you cracked it!! Gorgeous card - it reminds me of one of those old maps you see with pictures of boats in the corners. Another easy way to distress your papers is to use the edge of your scissors - that's how I do it anyway!!

I can't believe you had trouble with this. It is fantastic. I never thought of using a foot tool to distress. Thanks for the tip. This card really has an "old World" feel to it. The SU eyelets look so aged and antique too. Perfect.
ReplyDeleteYou did a beautiful job with your distressing as well as with the whole card! Love the image and you colored it beautifully. Great job! Best, Curt
ReplyDeleteFirst attempt? Are you sure??? Because I remember my first attempt (which was not so long ago) and it definitely was a disaster.
ReplyDeleteYour card is awesome!
Hugs,
Zlatina
Congratulations! You did a great job on the distressing and the card. I love the way you used the eyelets for portholes....very creative!
ReplyDeleteDiane I had to stop by and leave you a message on the first card back this season. You've done an excellent job with your distressing. Now wait until you try wadding up your backing paper and then "smoothing" it back out and hitting the high areas with distressing ink. Even when you've been distressing for a while, that's one scary feeling. LOL. Hugs, dj
ReplyDeleteI love how you have tied that twine! It fits to the ship theme so nicely!
ReplyDeleteIf that's your first go at distressing you will be a master in no time!
